The Expanding Demonstrations of Occupy Wall Street: What Is The End-Game? (Guest Voice) »
As the continued intense scrutiny that any political front-runner undergoes continues, more info is coming out about former Godfather’s Pizza and 2012 Republican Presidential nomination top-tier candidate Herman Cain. The latest is from some investigative reporting by AP which reports that for Cain as with many Republican Party insiders, Things Go Better With Koch:
Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has cast himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to the nation’s capital. But Cain’s economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.
Cain’s campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for Americans for Prosperity, or AFP, the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending. Cain credits a businessman who served on an AFP advisory board with helping devise his “9-9-9″ plan to rewrite the nation’s tax code. And his years of speaking at AFP events have given the businessman and radio host a network of loyal grassroots fans.
…His links to the Koch brothers could undercut his outsider, non-political image among tea party fans who detest politics as usual and candidates connected with the party machine.

This probably won’t matter one bit to those in the GOP who find the truly likable Cain someone whose views are closer to their heart and whose way of talking — not the typical, tiresome, transparently pandering political rhetoric most Republicans and Democrats use — engaging. It could be part of a political attack ad by Democrats at some point. But it will undercut his appeal as someone who is truly independent. He is not in any way off the reservation — except perhaps the weakening Republican establishment’s reservation.
But Walker and Kasich have done *wonders* for their respective states and taxpayers, so this should count in favor of Cain!
Face it, from reason.com to the think-tanks to Fox News to the Teepers to the presidential contenders and the governors, it is all one big machine designed to reduce providers of labor to powerless lower castes and capital providers to the upper caste. Hurting gays and women are a juicy bone to the fundamentalists.
I thought he acquitted himself very well today on MTP.
I guess that is really bad, I mean the affiliation with the Koch people. I knew there had to be something horrific in his background.
Republican establishment? Is the Tea Party part of the Republican Establishment or not, and, how the heck do I get any service in this establishment anyway? Where the heck is my pizza?
I’m getting a little tired of these incessant attacks on Herman Cain. HERMAN CAIN HAS THE ANSWERS AMERICA NEEDS!
He’s already solved the tax problem with his 9-9-9 plan. His obvious humor concerning our border with Mexico problem should endear all concerned and thus bring that problem to an end also.
I’m just concerned at the damage you are doing with these unfair attacks. It is going to destroy the pizza business altogether! Without pizza, America is doomed.
“His links to the Koch brothers could undercut his outsider, non-political image among tea party fans who detest politics as usual and candidates connected with the party machine.”
Wait, are the (stinger in minor) Koch brothers the lauded puppeteers of the Tea Party, or the their bane? It’s hard to keep with the fairy tale of the week.
I see Cain as sort of this year’s Sarah Palin, straight-talking not-a-white-male but with inadequate experience. I don’t think he has much of a chance despite the polls.
On the Koch Brothers association that is something that will be a big deal to people who weren’t going to vote for a Republican anyway, but probably not a big deal for most others.
Agree with DaGoat, Cain is the GOP flavor of the week. Also agree with Absalon who is right smack on target (unfortunately).
