Is Washington’s Jewish lobby an impenetrable barrier to the realization of a Palestinian state? Columnist Moqif Mattar of Rumallah’s Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah writes that regardless of the potential benefits of better U.S. ties to Arabs, keeping Palestinian lands under Israeli control is just as much an article of faith for America as it is for Israel.
For the Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, Moqif Mattar writes with resignation in part:
The American administration will exercise its veto because the Jewish lobby, in league with the Netanyahu government, is dissatisfied with Palestinian economic growth and its recognition by the World Bank. While an economically developing and independent Palestinian state would be a victory for Palestinians in their battle for liberation and independence, it would be a great loss for Israel’s economy. The Israeli government wants to keep the situation as it is, which results in huge profits exporting to Palestinians. From the point of view of the Israeli lobby in Washington, going from “governing authority” to a fully-fledged “state” would mean a multi-faceted Palestinian economy and a victory in our battle for independence.
Like Germany, the American government cannot neglect its promise to ensure Israel’s security and existence. It has its obligations. Obama wouldn’t dare bear the burden of deciding to recognize a Palestinian state on Palestinian territory that the Zionist movement and its founders have preached was their Promised Land for over 120 years. This topic is not only politically complicated, but culturally so as well. One cannot believe anything other than that Obama must take this into consideration.

What a truly bizarre article. What is the premise here? That the United States needs to support a Palestinian state, the details of which to be dictated by the Palestinian authority, in order to get better relations with Arab nations? Not in my mind it don’t.
Recognition by the world bank means what? That world bank “recognition” means economic success? Not in my mind. Palestinians do not make deposits into the World Bank, wealthy nations do and any nation that does not wish to participate in a charity lending project to the Palestinian authority simply do not supply money for the loan, including the United States.
Apparently the writer of this article believes that its readers have some common information that’s not included here.
It’s the principle of OPM-”Other People’s Money” at work, Allen.
Particularly, demanding Charity funded by OPM-the writer feels (there’s that word, ‘Feels’) that the U.S. should fund the dreams of people that train their kids to carry bombs.
Such concepts are usually tied to other concepts-like ‘social justice’ (which is different from the more mundane concepts of justice, in that it demands spending OPM in large quantities on people based on ‘suffering’ rather than whether it will have any sort of positive outcomes…)
