Obama To Black Caucus: “March With Me … Stop Complaining, Stop Crying”

President Obama addressed an audience of some 3,000 people earlier this evening at the Congressional Black Caucus awards banquet. Watch at C-SPAN (they’re not enabling embedding). CNN Reports:

“I expect all of you to march with me, and press on,” Obama said. “… Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We’ve got work to do.”

The unemployment rate among African-Americans is 16.7%, nearly double the national average, while 40% of black children live in poverty. Such facts has made fiscal reforms a priority for caucus members, some of whom — most of them Democrats — have criticized Obama for not doing enough on the issue.

…Obama called the situation for many blacks “heartbreaking and it’s frustrating.” But he also touted achievements of his administration — such as on the earned income tax credit, anti-foreclosure programs and consumer financial protections — for making a difference, while admitting more work lay ahead.

“In these hard years, we have won a lot of fights (and) we’ve done a lot of good,” he said. “But we’ve got more work to do. People are still hurting.”

As to the criticism, the president said that “nobody feels the burden more than I do.” But in a rousing end to his speech, he said he knew addressing problems wasn’t going to be easy, noting that one of the chief lessons from the civil rights movement is that “you can’t stop” in the face of challenges.

Reuters:

Facing a tough 2012 re-election fight, Obama sought to shore up once-unquestioned support in the black community where opinion polls show waning voter enthusiasm for his policies while some politicians have criticized him for not focusing enough on black unemployment.

Even as Obama’s overall poll numbers have declined, cracks have begun to show in his support among blacks, a key constituency that helped propel him to victory in the 2008 presidential election.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll earlier this week showed that 58 percent of blacks held “strongly favorable” views of him, down from 83 percent five months ago. That coincides with a black unemployment rate that has ticked up to close to 16 percent on Obama’s watch.

Obama also recorded a BET interview set to air Monday.

I’ve never witnessed any President in my lifetime, (since Eisenhower), face as much unfair and unnecessary political opposition as President Obama has endured from the GOP. Of course it is the strategy of the GOP to deny the President any opportunity to provide improved equality for his own suffering people, by denying any relief to everyone! Of course the most oppressed are going to be oppressed even farther by at least another order of magnitude because of it . The liberal ideas the President offers is, and, has been, LONG overdue for this nation. The rhetoric against these ideas are laughable at best and are advocated by the most incompetent, vitriol, scurrilous political insurgents the nation has ever known, the Tea Party. The Tea Party, funded and sustained by rich capitalists whom could care less about our country. Whom see our nation of people as only as a venue for enriching their personal banks accounts and supercharging their power over all of us. For what purpose can only be further public enslavement beholden to their Corporate Republic.

    This President needs to be.

Damn, and I was just writing a blog post supportive of the DNC. Now this…

Wait a minute, is this the same President Obama who said in an back in 2010 that voters should hold him accountable for the struggling economy. Is this the same President Obama who welcomed voters to judge his administration’s work on the economy as the November midterm elections approached?

His remarks at the Congressional Black Caucus are shocking and disappointing. Why does the President say, “… Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying to black America, and say something else to white America? the Ptresident seems to be scared to talk that way to White America, but finds it easy Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying to black America.

President Barack Obama should have said what he really feels: “You “N Word” need to Stop Complaining, Stop Grumbling, Stop crying. You don’t have the right to complain… I am your savior, vote for me and I wil set you free…

Damn, I see why his poll numbers are dropping in the black community. As reported by the Washington Post, and according to The Post-ABC News poll released yesterday, Obama went from an 83 percent “strongly favorable” rating among blacks in April to 58 percent. Yes, they are still in his corner. But this is a 26-point drop in five months. Not only does this show that African Americans are as dyspeptic as the rest of the country, but it also is a reflection of the simmering frustration enunciated by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) in Detroit in August. The message from blacks to Obama in this stunning poll is “We love ya, bruh, but damn..?.?.”

Regardless of the pigmentation of the individual’s skin, if any liberal were to stop whining and crying, he or she would give up the principal feature of being a liberal.

  4. Allen says:

    casualobserver-

That is offensive beyond belief and an outright lie. The principal “feature” of being liberal is concern for the common man.

The principal feature of conservatism is distain for the common man.

Now that conservatives have at least embraced the liberal concept of racial equality, after having fought it for many decades years, we know that conservatives eventually come around to liberal reason, albeit decades late.

  5. ProfElwood says:

Actually Allen, far too many liberals lose interest in helping their fellow man when it comes to using their own money. Statistics on giving show that conservatives are much better at being concerned with their own money.
