A Candidate for the 15th Century

This via my partner Steve Hynd over at Newshoogers.

—————————————–

Wondering what the agenda for Gov. Rick Perry’s “The Response” prayer rally is? Look no further, here are the answers:

Via Rightwing Watch, the video:

consists of the invitation Gov. Perry recorded asking people to attend his rally interspersed with footage of event endorsers, organizers, and sponsors – including Bryan Fischer saying gays should be banned from public office, Cindy Jacobs saying God was going to move unrighteous leaders out of government, Mike Bickle saying Oprah is a forerunner to the Antichrist, Jim Garlow saying the gay rights movement is driven by an “Antichrist spirit,” John Hagee saying God sent Hitler as a hunter to force the Jews to move to Israel, David Barton saying God is not going to tolerate those who don’t vote against issues like gay marriage or abortion, Stephen Broden saying the use of violence must always remain on the table, and finally Fischer again saying liberals hate God.”

Yep, Perry is seeking backing from the bigoted, theocratic right. He has been calling influential Republicans in New Hampshire and Iowa too. But he already has one advantage over current Iowa frontrunner Bachmann to the sexist bigots of the far right’s theocracy faction – he has a penis.

Ron, that’s vicious, and you ought to know better, but if he really reviles you, then: [fake grin] at least he got the era right, and his state can continue to work with Saudi Arabia (its government), then.

If you’re curious, I view him as a lot less harmful than many others; do I believe he’s great or perfect? Hell, no. He’s a modern politico.

  2. DLS says:

For those unlike Ron who need help: Pre-1500 mentality.

Ron is hyping it, as the worst (most extreme and uncaring) social conservatives as a rule aren’t ignorant or consumed by hatred (as is so frequent on the Left, where emotion displaces reason!), but he has a point about the attitude if expressed at its worst.

  3. RON BEASLEY says:

Vicious?-Maybe – reality is vicious sometimes. Is there anything in the post that’s not accurate?

  4. DLS says:

Ron, I (myself) have misgivings against the death penalty (I’ve had a very Deep intellectual, moral, ethical, etc. concern about it as of, oh, age eight, and I recall thinking a lot about it when I first got my driver’s license in CA and had thinking time at my disposal while on the road even then), but it was correctly applied here, even if there were extraneous arguments in favor of the defendant. The death penalty (mentioned at least three times in the Constitution) obviously is unconstitutional. Are you mad because of the exercise (execution) of capital punishment because it’s an R who approved it? Certainly you’re not so inane as Dionne (again!) who not only is anti-R but lib-fad-BS-HUA.

  5. tidbits says:

    D,

Ron accurately quoted his source. That’s not vicious in my view. It’s simply reporting on a perspective from one side of the aisle.

That the source is People for the American Way and that the video is a cut and paste job raises issues about that organization, not about Ron. If you go to his link, you find all that out, btw.

Just my view, but I find it interesting how the various “sides” attack one another and how they like to conflate the unhealthy views of supporters with the views of the candidate. Witness the Rev. Wright flap. Both sides engage in this stuff.

Of course, I’m no fan of Rick [secession-is-good-for-the-soul] Perry and his revolving door at the lethal injection chamber.

  6. LOGAN PENZA says:

So, as long as the quote is accurate, it is fair to use that brush to paint everyone on the other side with it?

    Cool.

I’m going digging for some Noam Chomsky and Cindy Sheehan.

Or I could just go pull some quotes from Newshoggers. LOL.

  7. ShannonLeee says:

The post needs a delete button. Far-left Gone Wild.

  8. Don Quijote says:

    Logan,

Neither Cindy Sheehan nor Noam Chomsky are running for president, but feel free to quote them if you must…

    Shannon,

I don’t know why you think this the Far Left gone wild when all Ron is doing is quoting the Supporters of Rick Perry which he is actively courting…

Birds of a feather flock together…

  9. DLS says:

This reminds me of the Tea Party phenomenon (about which the Left truly has been vicious) and how social conservatives “crashed” that “party” once they were encouraged about the popular rejection of the excesses of Obama and the Congressional Democrats. In no way can fringists be claimed to be representative of the Tea Party, nor the more extreme social conservatives here of Perry or much less, the GOP. (The GOP is simply the lesser of two evils to non-liberals.) Yes, there are rare but true farther-right people, but that’s hardly going to be the basis of any successful Presidential campaign, and it’s hardly characteristic of most on the Right, obviously.

  10. DLS says:

    Don Quijote wrote:

Neither Cindy Sheehan nor Noam Chomsky are running for president[.]

And that no doubt adds to the far Left’s frustration, above and beyond Obama’s recent concessions to reality that has the far Left talk radio and television community so bothered currently.

They actually claimed that the “lesson of 2010″ is that the Democrats (including President Obama) weren’t far left enough(!), and act as if they want Obama to be like Chomsky or Sheehan. (they call it “spine”)

  11. zephyr says:

We’re l-o-n-g overdue for a return to basic nuts and bolts sanity and honesty in this country – and that necessarily has to include progress away from the superstitious, backward nonsense that continues to “inform” so many of today’s republicans… and yes, that most definitely includes Rick Perry.

  12. DLS says:

Well, that may tickle some, Zephyr, but the real problem we’ve seen is those who are true retrogrades among libs and Dems, who believe it’s another 1965 or another 1933 (always a classic, correct phrase).
