The Event: Chapter 11
Mick LaSalle published the 11th chapter of The Event. It’s, once again, a great, entertaining read and… it’s becoming more and more disturbing I have to admit.
Point of mild criticism: in reality it seems much more likely to me that ‘liberals’ would applaud the World Faith initiative instead of conservatives of course.
There’s a very surprising development. Something serious will happen to President East. What? To find out what, Read chapter 11.

Hey Michael — Thanks for the kind words. To address the point you made about liberals being more likely to applaud the initiative: Perhaps, except that liberals wouldn’t applaud it if it came from East. That’s the thing. And as for conservatives . . . well, look at the example of the current administration. Aside from a few people like Bob Barr, conservatives have been pretty blithe about watching the erosion of their own civil liberties. Also, too, it’s worth remembering that in the world of this novel, 60 million of the most sensible Americans have been raptured from the scene. That would include a lot of Christian independent thinkers — the Bob Barrs of the world, plus the liberal Christians. The people most in the position to know exactly what this guy is doing aren’t there. What’s left are the ones most likely to be fooled — secular liberals and the religious right.
