These are dangerous games, perhaps too dangerous.

This post seems to accept that if we have kidnapped Iranian officers, that’s okay because they could be useful, and the Iranians are bad people.

This kind of thinking, however, is exactly what drives the anger against the US. Retaliation is more than possible, it seems to me. It’s likely.

What has been obvious for some time is that the world is tired of bowing to our superiority. Others are not willing to accept our exceptionalism on our say-so.
I accept the official word that the captured Iranians inside Iraq were there to cause trouble. But if so, we should act in a straightforward manner, just like we would if these were operatives from any other country. Bring it out in the open, identify who they are and where they are, and cite the evidence.

Saying that the mullahs brought this on themselves is an unfinished sentence. The ending says that we have to be careful about appearances, or the mullahs will be bringing it on us.

Lack of consideration for consequences, isn’t that how we ended up in the Iraq mess?

The Iranians have no business meddling in Iraq. If we catch them up to no good, they are lucky to remain alive. And if Iran chooses to make things worse by kidnapping Westerners? Leave it to lowlifes like them to be likely to move Americans to demand destruction of Iranian targets as well as Iran’s government if need be.

DLS- Maybe the Iranians think we have no business meddling in Iraq! After all, is a neighbor that they share a border with-like we do with Mexico—we certainly have a history of meddling in Mexico’s business!
If we are kidnapping their officials, they are going to use that to claim that they are justified in kidnapping ours.

They undoubtedly think that. However the govt of Iraq does not think so, and that govt is recognized internationally, including by the govt of Iran, not to mention by the United Nations. So for now, if they dont like that there guys are arrested in Iraq, they can complain to the Govt of Iraq.

This leaves aside the case of Asgari, who may well have defected, or may have been arrested pursuant to an Interpol warrant for his role in the bombing of Jewish Community Center in Argentina.

Where are they going to arrest ou
