Is it him?

IMO The Saudis saw the US drowning in the ME and took the lead. I think Cheney’s vistit awhile back was a critical meeting, the Saudis and other ‘moderate’ Sunnis were worried by the mess in Iraq and the growing influence of Iran. Condo and the W administration have stumbled from one mistake to another. I even believe that the Sunnis gave a wink to the US and Israel in Lebanon. But the results told the Sunnis Arabs that this administration has no clue to ‘fix’ the ME. I believe that the Saudis are running the show, disgusted by the US incompetence.

I’m waiting for the follow-up to the walt-mersheimer report which this time explores the saudi control over U.S. policy in the Mideast.

I wonder who has more influence – Israel or Saudis Arabia?

The worrisome part of Hersh’s article is his detailing of extralegal activities by our own intelligence agencies——-supporting covert funding of Sunni jihadist groups to decrease the power of Hezbollah??? Hersh was on CNN this morning talking about how Congress has no idea that US funds were being used for this. It sounds like shades of Iran-contra to me.

  5. Kim: I’m currently reading the article and I share your concern. I will try to write something on this tomorrow, but this is very, very worrisome.

Don’t people ever learn from the past?

  6. kritter says:

Thanks Michael. The answer is no. We don’t learn- isn’t this how OSB got his start? I’m not getting how they think the Iranians are a bigger threat than Sunni jihadists. Aren’t these the very Islamofascists the right has been raging on about since 9/11?

The other part of the article that just seems bizarre- is the plan to destabilize Abbas’ government in Lebanon.
