We live in a world of violence and brutality, movies, TV and video games. The news is brimful of drones, suicides, and advocates of state and personal terrorism.
But we CHOOSE to get upset about one man beat up by drunks at a baseball game.
What the hell, Ormond? Those who can hold more than one thought in their minds at a time can be upset that this man was hurt senselessly AND be worried about the suffering in other parts of the world. People in LA also have a lot more ability to do something to bring justice to this young man, and to prevent further similar violence, than they do to save the suffering thousands of miles away.
Before I was distracted by the ridiculous faux outrage at every suffering person everywhere but where we can actually make a difference, I was going to thank the OP for the update.

Not a good harbinger.
Not upset, necessarily; many of us, remote from the place, are, rather, disgusted.
(This is real life in the USA, not television or the movies.)
And people in LA are worth much more than people in Haiti, Brazil, Mexico, Honduras, Palestine, or Iraq. To name a few.
Civilization might be defined as extending compassion outside our local group.

My brother used to ride with that guy as a paramedic. Stow is a well respected nice guy.
