Birthday Music Blog

So, it’s my 21st Birthday today, and I have some money to burn at the iTunes store. I’ve already purchased the “Phobia” album by Breaking Benjamin, and this morning I finally managed to acquire “Calypso” by Spiderbait, which has been an on-and-off quest for the past five years. But I’m looking to find some new stuff I might enjoy, and so I submit to the collective expertise of the blogosphere.

I have a lot of trouble distinguishing between musical sub-genres, but as far as I can tell my tastes run somewhere between Hard Rock, Nu Metal, and alternative rock and metal. A representative sample of bands I really like are Breaking Benjamin, Trust Company, Hoobastank, and Lostprophets. I sampled some metalcore today (specifically, Atreyu) and found it too hard for my tastes; on the other side, “poppish” type songs like Hoobastank’s “The Reason” make me gag.

So, what do y’all got for me?

PS: If you’re wondering why I’m not doing more…celebratory activities today, it’s because I have an awful head cold that won’t die. Alcohol, sub-zero temperatures, and sickness don’t mix very well. But I did have a Grasshopper at midnight last night.
