So Rudy’s In (almost)

Yes — as the other Michael reported earlier — it looks like Rudy Giuliani is running for president after all. (Maybe.)

(By the way, did you know he was actually the mayor of New York on 9/11? Huh. I had no idea. I mean, he could have told us or something.)

He polls well — vague memories of heroism and all — but I’m with Kevin Drum on this: “The average voter has vague, positive impressions of Rudy thanks to his 9/11 heroics, and these people are going to be unpleasantly surprised when they see him for the first time in years and he turns out to be nastier than they remember (not to mention being freighted down by a closet full of skeletons they didn’t know about). He has nowhere to go but down.”

And that’s where he’ll go. Down. (If you want to know why he won’t make it through the Republican primaries, just watch Jesus Camp, which I finally saw for the first time over the weekend. Scary stuff. And very non-Rudy.)

I heard a report that he is now agaisnt gun control, agaisnt abortion and against gay marriage. He must be serious
about wanting to be the GOP’s pick. In New York, he marched in gay pride parades, defended abortion rights and implemented strict gun control laws.
The only thing he’s taking with him from New York are the 9/11 pictures.

I have no problem with someone changing his mind. Wise people update their views as their thinking evolves. But this is so sudden, Rudy! Do I smell another case of hypocrisy?

Yeah I think I heard that same report. Wasnt that the report that said Hillary was really Bill Clinton in Disguise and that Obama really is Osama’s son?

Yeah I think I saw that report.

I have to agree with UIS on this, domajot. Do you have any reference for those comments by Guiliani? I haven’t heard him say anything of the sort, in fact I’d say he’s playing it much smarter than that (and with more integrity) by sticking to his principles but articulating why he holds these views and how he has common ground with conservatives who have different views than his.
