The Washington Post reports:
Geraldine Anne Ferraro Zaccaro, 75, passed away Saturday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by her family. The cause of death was complications from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that she had battled for 12 years, according to a statement from her family.
Ms. Ferraro earned a place in history as the first woman and first Italian-American to run on a major party national ticket, serving as Walter Mondale’s Vice Presidential running mate in 1984 on the Democratic Party ticket.
When Geraldine Ferraro ran as Walter Mondale’s Vice Presidential candidate, I was still a Republican but had the greatest respect and admiration for her. That respect and admiration have only grown since then.
I know that my co-contributors here at The Moderate Voice will have much more to say about this great loss and this Great Lady.
