“You know who,” along with his hate family has ‘twittered’ he and his band are on their way to Sandy Hook to protest the ‘fag/ faggot/ faggot-y’ ways that caused God to send a shooter to kill little children and their teachers and helpers.
‘You know who,’ is listed at Southern Poverty Law center, and rightfully/righteously so, even though Justice Roberts whilst overturning a 5M damage legal outcome owed by the ‘church’ which is not a church, for causing harm during the funeral of a veteran, indicated that he thought that speech even when it is hurtful is protected in public.
‘You know who’ has the following hyper-criminal background, including being disbarred for perjury, which may be a small satisfaction to those who have an actual sense of justice, for ‘You know who’ is an equal opportunity hater:
from SPL site… Since 1951, Phelps has been arrested repeatedly for assault, battery, threats, trespassing, disorderly conduct, and contempt of court. He has been convicted four times, as well as disbarred, but has managed to avoid prison.
Background
From a small compound in Topeka, Kan., Fred Phelps and his 100 or so followers at the Westboro Baptist “Church” — primarily composed of most of his 13 children, their children and other relatives — have picketed events ranging from theater performances to the funerals of fallen U.S. soldiers to children murdered or killed in traffic accidents. These protests share a simple theme: Attacking America’s perceived tolerance of homosexuality and celebrating God’s perceived wrath as just rewards for “fags” and “fag-enablers.”
Phelps calls for gays to be tried and executed. He celebrates the death of innocent people who meet a violent end. Phelps attempted without success to build a granite monument in Cheyenne, Wyo., declaring: “Matthew Shepard, Entered Hell October 12, 1998, in Defiance of God’s Warning: ‘Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination.’ Leviticus 18:22.”
Born in Mississippi in 1929, and said to be ailing now in his 80s, Phelps dropped out of Bob Jones University in 1947. He began a street preaching crusade against “dirty” humor. After earning a law degree from Washburn University in 1962, his law career began to crumble in 1979, when he was disbarred in Kansas for perjury. He continued to rack up complaints for false testimony until, as part of a 1989 plea deal, he agreed to cease practicing in federal courts.
It was in the late 1980s Phelps kicked off his anti-gay-and-everything else including the kitchen sink crusade. In the early 1990s, he began a torrent of anti-gay pickets across America that continues to this day. His hundreds of actions have resulted in extensive (and often stupefied) media coverage, as well as numerous local, city, state and federal laws seeking to curb Phelps’ activities.
In fact, his attempts to picket in Canada resulted in that country’s first hate-crime law, informally known as the “Fred Phelps Law.” Other legislation sparked by Phelps’ protests includes the federal “Fallen Heroes Act.” Passed in May 2006 after Phelps made headlines targeting the funerals of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, it prohibits protests within 300 feet of any national cemetery from 60 minutes before to 60 minutes after a funeral. Twenty states have since passed laws similar to the Fallen Heroes Act, while many cities, including Phelps’ hometown Topeka, have enacted local ordinances tailored to thwart Phelps.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed suits in Missouri and Ohio on behalf of Phelps’ church, without success.
While at first glance Phelps appears a caricature of a socially conservative Christian rightist, he is no patriot. His Topeka compound — which houses his church and five homes occupied by relatives — is draped with an enormous upside-down American flag, representing what he calls a fallen nation whose seas are protected by what he calls a “fag Navy.”
He has targeted not only liberal, but also conservative icons such as Ronald Reagan, whom Phelps picketed for sending an ambassador to the Vatican.
Phelps has also publicly praised a number of America’s official enemies, including Fidel Castro and Saddam Hussein.
Because his [media hungry]… hatred for gay men and lesbians runs so deep and overflows in such bizarre and bilious ways, some have questioned the source and nature of Phelps’ commitment to the “cause” of anti-gay activism. “I’m so tired of people calling him an ‘anti-gay activist’,” one Topeka resident told the Southern Poverty Law Center in 2001. “He’s not an anti-gay activist. He’s a human abuse machine.”
Westboro Baptist ‘Church’ members under Phelps’ orders have picketed Bill Clinton’s mother, Sonny Bono, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dole, Jerry Falwell, the Ku Klux Klan, Santa Claus and the 17 sailors killed aboard the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000 — all of whom Phelps has attacked as “fags” or “supporters of the fag agenda.”
In 2009, WBC members began viciously attacking Jews and protesting in front of synagogues holding signs reading “The Jews Killed Jesus” and “God Hates Jews.”
CODA
So, and thus You know who, creeps forward now, his two daughters having taken up the cudgel apparently, and hackers doing their sacred duty by apparently hacking Westboro’s site which is IHATEFAGS or some such.
The oddity for me as a shrink is to see how the ideation of You know who is very similar to those who murder en masse; a hatred of humans, a disregard for others, a sense of self entitlement over compassion or even simple decency, a false attributing of evil to others, a grotesque acting out, a gluttony for publicity. Something to think about.
Meanwhile, in Sandy Hook, firefighters and police officers from more than just Newtown will stand abreast to keep You know who, and his backup band/// from even glimpsing the mourners.
I know many of us will stand with them in full spirit. I very much like the idea of a band of brothers and sisters creating a firm and peaceful NO! to a man who has proven he cannot control his own appetites, let alone anyone else’s he imagines in his gutter terms.
And just this last little note too: Many of us who are Christians are aware that followers of the Christ know he never said a word about gay people. On the other hand, Paul did make his few sentences of pronouncement. In which case, if one is following what Paul thinks, that would make one a Paulist, not a Christian… who follows Christ and only Christ… the Galilean who was we are told, a healer, helper, storyteller, a gentle Christ who had a good sense of the fools and hypocrites in the priesthood of his day, and still turned to help those who were the exact opposite –the sincere, the humble, the striving and struggling. Jesus intervened decidedly against the ruling loud-mouthed rabbis who wanted to, for instance, stone a woman to death whilst acting as though they themselves were pure… which they were not. Ironically, if same is same from now as then, Christ would also decidedly rout You know who.
May all in Newtown and elsewhere there is mourning, be left in peace.
