Some things are the same all over the world: people interpret the actions of others through their currently held beliefs – that is, through their paradigms. Paradigms act as filters of evidence that serve to support the paradigms… and that is why people, nations, groups etc. change their minds much less than could be considered healthy.
Some things are different: non-Westerners read the Western press much more than ever Westerners read the non-Western press (despite such resources as Watching America and even Google News.) And they do so to understand the motivations of foreigners with whom they share the planet. As the publisher of Watching America, I have to say that I think that is a pretty good idea, even when bad conclusions are drawn.
In this article translated from Urdu in the Daily Jang of Pakistan, we both these truths in play as we learn what some mainstream Pakistanis think are the intentions of the U.S. and the U.K. toward Pakistan, and in particular, its nuclear assets.
