About three years ago it seemed like every time you turned on the television there was another Republican involved in a sex scandal. For some reason it appeared that Republicans just could not avoid being caught in bed (or bathroom) with someone and the party suffered for it. Despite the fact that undoubtedly Democrats were just as capable of having sex scandals, they just didn’t seem to have any of them show up in the press.
More recently the tables seem to have turned as Democrats seem to be caught up in problems over taxes. We’ve already seen one Cabinet nominee (Daschle) drop out and another face tough hearings (Geithner). It is probable based on news reports that Caroline Kennedy lost her Senate bid because of tax issues and that Governor Richardson also dropped out of contention for Commerce because of tax related problems. We also saw Nancy Killefer drop her bid for Chief Performance Officer because of it.
Looking back to the Bush 41 and 43 nominations I don’t recall any major tax issues but we did see a couple of Clinton contenders drop out for tax related issues.
Which leads to the question of the day…..
What is it with Democrats and tax problems ?
I mean I can understand if one of us ‘normal people’ have tax issues but when you are a top contender for a Cabinet position you would think you’d make sure to keep taxes and nanny issues in order. This is especially true when you are a Democrat and probably make political points on attacking ‘rich tax cheats’.
Does make you scratch your head…
And I do know the same thoughts could be applied to the GOP sex scandals during 2006, but that was then and this is now, so I am addressing the current problems.
