CHRISTIAN MAN SETS WORLD RECORD SINGING HYMNS FOR THE HOMELESS
April 17, 2006 — Fifty-five year old Terry Coleman of Denver, CO, sang hymns for 40 hours and 17 minutes to get into either the Guinness Book of World Records or The Book of Alternative Records. He has recently received official confirmation from The Book of Alternative Records as the world record holder for singing hymns to bring awareness to the plight of the homeless. He was also featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not cartoon website Feb 12, 2006, singing hymns for 40 hours, 17 minutes for the homeless.
Terry Coleman held the singing hymns marathon fundraiser because he has a brother that is homeless. Terry sang from a list of 120 hymns with the established rules that each piece of music last two minutes and a break of 15 minutes must be taken every four hours. As it now stands Guinness World Records has no category for hymn singing or religious singing marathons.
The event was held at Tabitha’s Restaurant July 20 through the 22, 2005. At the time Terry was 54 years old. The event was held to benefit non-profit organizations that help the homeless.
Terry stated, “We did not receive a lot money. One reason is because the news of the event came out late. But Terry said he did accomplish his objective of bringing awareness to the homeless. He hopes this will send a message for all Christians who have talents to use them to help mankind in the name of Jesus Christ.
