President Trump addressed the nation from the Oval Office. Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer gave their replies immediately afterwards.
Of course, people who are fanatical in their support of Trump decided ahead of time that Trump would make the better argument.
Likewise, people who are fanatical in their support of the Democratic Party – as well as people who are fanatical in their opposition to Trump – decided ahead of time that Pelosi and Schumer would make the better argument.
So, who made the better argument?
Answer: Pelosi and Schumer.
Why? Because the partial shutdown of the federal government is the result of President Trump refusing to sign legislation already passed by Congress, not the result of congressional Democrats refusing to pass legislation.
As Senator Schumer pointed out, the sticking point has to do with the different parties disagreeing on what would be feasible and effective in regards to securing the USA’s entire southern border.
President Trump did not give evidence that a wall across the entire southern border would be feasible and effective. Indeed, he hasn’t done so in any of his speeches and comments about his desired wall.
It is a gross error to believe that building such a wall would be easy-peasy, which is what President Trump appears to believe.
