Ten years ago a group of liberals founded Move On in order to tell us that it was time for us to move beyond the various Clinton Scandals and to focus on the future. They correctly, in my opinion, pointed out that the nation had many problems to focus on and that to dwell on the past was not productive.
While I had issues with his conduct (not the affair stuff but the many other scandals) I agreed it was important for us to move beyond his administration and work towards the future.
Now it is time for them to take a dose of their own medicine. I know many have issues with the Bush administration and I am among those who has had issues with many of his decisions and policies. But he is leaving office and for us to spend the next couple of years playing more Bush bashing games is not going to solve the problems we face now.
As I’ve said in other posts, we can have debates over who is to blame for these problems, whether they are entirely his fault or the result of decades of policies (I lean to the latter view) but playing those games won’t solve things now. Certainly it is important to examine how we got to where we are in order to avoid making similar mistakes in the future, and I do plan to examine those topics in future posts.
But the discussions now need to be in that vein, not to attack the other side but to try, as much as possible, to have a open debate without getting partisan about it.
