The Underappreciated Jeb Bush
by Jordan Cooper
To be in politics you have to be a good person. To be an effective public servant you have to be a great human being. To be a great human being you must be able to rise beyond your own personal inhibitions to make the population more inclined to attain the greater good. The most recent definition of those propositions is former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. He has partaken in civic activities that do not simply classify to his conservative reputation. Actually, he has been as significant or more of an education governor than my state’s former Governor Dick Riley (Also, Secretary of Education under President Clinton) . He has been as tough on crime or harder than LSAT perfectionist (180 score) Eliot Spitzer. Also, when it comes to taxes he has been just as or more rewarding to the taxpayer than former S.C. Governor Mark Sanford.
The GOP has been thankless for his great governorship due to his family’s political record that is largely seen as controversial. His friendship with President Obama may be a minus too in the Kodak picture he seeks politically. The GOP seems as if it just wants someone completely new without regards to their proven credentials. Perhaps desperately electing Donald Trump who has no political experience at all.
So, we as a country are going in reverse thru hiring people that don’t have the pertinent expertise for the positions they apply for. We are basically saying forget the whole democratic government we have developed over the last 200 years and let’s put in someone who has never served in government (laughs). It’s amateur night in America (laughs). We wouldn’t want anyone cutting our hair that doesn’t have a barber’s license (laughs). Hence, I don’t see why we should have someone lead our government that hasn’t worked in it at any time.
Although, he has said in recent years that he doesn’t know if he’s a conservative or not anymore I am sure that he still is classically conservative. He is comfortable enough awarding an American activist like Hillary Clinton an award for her service to this country. Don’t get me wrong Hillary Clinton has directly contributed to many conflicts for this nation and world in an indiscriminate way. Yet, she is still a symbol for women and others who strive to be like her in this country.
As a matter of fact if there were no Hillary there might not have been a Condi, Nikki, or even Elizabeth Dole. She made women seem capable of leadership in this country during her time in public office. Therefore, Governor Bush is correct in being fine with decorating her for what she has done for the perception of women in this country.
Additionally, he is not worried about his presidential bid he is worried about people who want to serve the country for the greater good. Bush knows he will have to run on four records at least his father, grandfather, and both brothers to achieve the presidency. So, keynoting an event to spotlight Hillary Clinton will display that he is for this country and not bound by conceit. No other presidential hopeful would bestow an award on their potential opponent. This shows Bush is a sincere statesman.
On the contrary, if Governor Bush suspends his campaign in the 2016 primaries due to flagging feedback from voters he would become the mostprobable V.P candidate for the GOP. He has a racially and ethnically Mexican-American nuclear family. Mexican-Americans are over seventy-five percent of America’s Hispanic population. Secondly, he is the only candidate to have two relatives that served in both wings of the White House.
Plus, he’s from an important state in the electoral college where he served as the first two-term GOP governor. No other candidate can say that and he’s got irreplaceable experience. Is this something that he wants to do? Guess we have to wait and see.
