No matter how old or young you may be, how many times have you remarked to a friend or just made a mental note to yourself, “Say… that looks interesting. I’ll have to get back to that.” I find this happens with things in a wide variety of categories, but mostly entertainment or casual study. There are television series, books, movies, plays and travel destinations which I just know I would enjoy, but I don’t seem to make time for them. Life keeps getting in the way for some reason.
Here are a few things I missed along the way.
Dr. Who. The Brit television series is a classic which most of my friends rave about. I’ve always meant to get into it and the few episodes I’ve caught here and there looked great. Unfortunately, when it comes to series of any sort, I tend to be a bit obsessive compulsive. I can’t tolerate jumping into the middle or toward the end and catching up with things in a patchwork fashion. I need to watch them in order. Some day I’ll be sure to get around to Dr. Who.
Moby Dick. What can I say? I confess… I never finished reading it. I’ve started into it at least twenty times, but I have some sort of mental block and I can’t finish. I have the Cliff Notes, I know the high points for the test and I can sketch out the plot. But I’ve never actually read it front to back. I feel guilty about that.
The movies of Myrna Loy. I was watching The Thin Man this weekend and remembered exactly how wonderful she was on film. You could pair her up with anyone and she simply lit up the screen, but for some reason I never dug up and really soaked in her entire collection.
Caves. In my time I’ve been around the entire world twice and spent at least some time living on every continent except Antarctica. I’ve been skydiving and scuba diving. I’ve seen many wonderful things and met all sorts of people. But the one thing I never took time for was to go visit some of the many caves which are open to the public. I live not far from one and have traveled past quite a few others, but I never seem to go. I always wanted to, but never made the time. Just another of the things I missed.
Your turn. What have you missed out on and still hope to make time for?
