In November of 1971 I left my job with the Defense Intelligence Agency in Munich and returned to my home in Oregon. I bought a new large format camera and built a darkroom in my basement. I grew up about a block from the entrance of Balch Creek canyon, a city park, (oddly named for a man who murdered his wife and was hanged). It was and still is a magical place and and when I was growing up me and my friends would spend hours there packing lunches so we didn’t have to go home until dinner. It was the logical place for me to take my new camera and then come back to improve my darkroom skills.
This is also one of my better pictures.
Taking photographs in the canyon allowed me to see it in a new light. There will be more posts from Balch Creek canyon, some of them in color (sorry Kevin).
The list of links to past posts is getting a bit long so I will put up a link to the last post in the European series and you can find other links at the bottom of that post.
