Many on the extreme right and elsewhere on the political spectrum strongly advocate we return to some imaginary original Constitution, and that we should live by what the original framers thought or intended – as these advocates are only able to decipher. Of course, any political, economic, social or religious ideology expanded via rigid consistency will naturally lead to insanely ludicrous statements and results. A perfect example is Rand Paul and Pure Libertarianism – the stupidest ideology ever invented by humans. Of course, most people can’t tell you-know-what from shinola so such ad absurdum endings are perfectly natural.
There have been many ostensibly articulate and carefully written arguments setting forth why we as a nation should return to some past period of time, including that the U.S. Constitution should be followed in its original incantation before any amendments occurred. Some even argue various Amendments are unconstitutional – the height of arrogant stupidity and denial of where we are in 2010. While often fascinating and entertaining to read or hear, these arguments always leave me with the distinct feeling that the proponents of such ideas are just blowing up my sphincter. And in the end, they are intrinsically confused as to what type of world we would have to embrace. After some clear and objective thinking, I am left to sadly conclude that all those who make such meritless arguments are lunatics, morons, charlatans or even worse.
I hope some TMV readers and contributors are sufficiently insulted, outraged, and offended by my summary of some of their long-held beliefs. Unfortunately, I am far more intelligent, lucid, observant, experienced, savvy, sane and prescient than 99% of the other human beings on the planet. It’s not a question of being arrogant or superior to others when it is the simple truth. (I have been proven correct on so many events and subjects that I don’t bother telling my critics “I told you so.”) As I write, I relish the fact that many TMV readers will get angrier the more I point out my demigod intellectual status in comparison to their cockroach brains.
My pusillanimous critics can comfort themselves that I have not been very successful financially during the past 3 years and I could never fit in with the corporate world during most of my working career. However the large organizations in both the public and private sectors are full of imbeciles who found me hopelessly blunt, honest and not one to play along with their stupid internal games. Most of the great thinkers in human history were not wealthy, nor were they ever considered “insiders.” If your principle measure of human value, intelligence, success and self-worth are based solely on money, you are a terribly sad and worthless piece of human excrement.
Our constitution was written and ratified at the end of the 18th Century (1787-89) just months before the French Revolution and the bloody aftermath of the “Age of Enlightenment.” We were fortunate to have assembled a pantheon of intelligent, well-read, experienced, and rational men to write a basic framework that could govern a future great nation. Across the globe we have many examples of failed nations founded and run by complete lunatics, narcissists, psychopaths and sociopaths. However, our founders were far from perfect human beings and they were shaped by the age in which they lived. The constitution was also a heavily compromise human document, not he inerrant word of “God” that cannot be amended and reinterpreted. It is ironic that many religious fundamentalist also reach for the same in constitutional fundamentalism – a sure sign of intellectual laziness – a sad mental disease for which the cure is difficult or simply impossible for some to undertake.
Why should we return to some former type of government and legal system when we are not willing to return to old forms of plumbing and a world before industrialization, electricity, advanced medicine, science and technology, and the many modern systems of transportation and communication. I am sure some extreme luddites might relish the thought of turning back the clocks to a time even before clocks but even today’s extreme religious zealots who want to return to the 15th Century with respect to human behavior are completely at ease using 21st Century technology to blow up infidels. These facts simply prove the massive hypocrisy that is permeating the conservative mind in America today – but reading their rants are always entertaining because critical thought, all objective and contradicting facts, and basic human decency and ethics are completely abandoned.
Most political, economic, social, religious and philosophical ideologies are fully developed during the mentally obsessive period through which many people progress during college. (Other beliefs were formulated after being in the desert for too long and are a result of the deleterious effects of too much hot sun and not enough cooling water.) People can happily discuss, advocate, plan and believe in all types of utopian worlds as long as all your basic living needs are covered by student loans, grants and wealthy parents. Unfortunately many among our political, civic, religious and business leaders and ruling elites; 24/7 info-entertainers, bloggers, commentators, and pundits; the idle rich; and those policy wonks infesting so many private think-tanks; maintain their sophomoric obsessive sessions and beliefs long after they should have been abandoned for more mature thinking.
This critique does not only apply to many silly conservative ideologies but it covers many liberal arguments that both work fine in the mind until harsh reality and the facts rear their ugly heads. Those who have held their sacrosanct beliefs for too long will deny reality and facts rather than undertaking the hard work of coming up with new ways of thinking. Of course this author was and is generally immune to such foolish beliefs and thought patterns.
The whole U.S. Constitution, coupled with the 2010 bankrupt remains of our national political and economic systems are hopelessly outdated and cannot serve a declining world power of more than 300 million people in the 21st Century. To those who deny reality and foolishly think otherwise, I assure you that the facts and circumstances will quickly prove you wrong. Now there is some hope for various states and regions of the country that might be more enlightened – though from my 2010 observations, many are suffering from ingrained corrupt dysfunctional governments, denial or outright rejection of reality, and trapped in complete laziness unable to coherently analyze the complex facts, relationships and options before us.
I no more want to try to decipher and live by the original intent of the founders of our nation than I want to return to bleeding as a form of medical treatment; bedpans and outhouses as viable alternatives to modern indoor toilets; horses and buggies as alternatives to modern electrified light rail; unregulated private enterprise pollution of our air, water, land, and bodies; the alleged joys of human slavery and absolute inherited monarchies; plus being regularly held hostage in the past to the many warped social, sexual, fashion and dietary beliefs of extreme Christian, Moslem, Jewish and other “control-freak” religious leaders.
To those who prefer looking backwards instead of forward, you can’t recognize that your heads and asses have been figuratively exchanged – and it’s not a pretty picture to objective outsiders. To save more public embarrassment, severe intellectual damage to the most gullible and ignorant among us, and the possible destruction of our living planet, please go inside and be quiet. You really need some rest and vacation from your constant bloviating, outrage, rants, fears, angers, and idiotic outbursts – and the rest of us need a vacation from you.
