Flush with the recent historic Affordable Care Act (ACA) victory at the nation’s highest court and rightly proud of the overall success of the program, the Obama administration is taking its message directly to the festive, red-white-and-blue-covered hot dogs and potato salad tables this Fourth of July.
Warning Americans that misinformation about the ACA is everywhere, that there’s been a lot of money spent to spread that misinformation and that “You should be prepared when Aunt Janine says something like, ‘Obamacare hasn’t helped anyone!’” Health and Human Services (HHS) gives a few tips on how to answer such claims and how to make some constructive suggestions interspersed with “Now, would you like more corn?” and other apropos comments.
For example:
.
• Uncle Ted claims Obamacare is a train wreck and has cost jobs.
• Your brother has a great idea for a start-up, but he’s afraid to lose benefits when he leaves his current job.
• Before reaching for another burger, your uncle mentions he’s been meaning to get a blood pressure screening he’s been putting off.
• Your younger cousin is about to graduate from college. She’s found a great internship that could really help her career, but it doesn’t offer any benefits.
Now, pass that delicious potato salad of yours, Aunt Janine, and I hope to see you again next year, spry and healthy thanks to Obamacare.
