Amid the riveting news in Egypt is a story out today about the cost of the flyoverat the Super Bowl this year, estimated at around 400,000.
I’m not much of a sports fan and only half watched the Super Bowl but I have to say this seems like a bit of an overreaction.
As pointed out by some of the comments to the linked article, pilots have to log a set number of hours in the air every year to maintain flight status. So if this particular flight hadn’t done a Super Bowl flyover on Sunday the odds are those same pilots would have flown over nothing on Tuesday, with the same cost.
So it seems to me we might as well use some of these flights to get some entertainment value since they are going to happen anyway.
But it might provide us with an alternate discussion today as we wait for Hosni to speak (or play his videotape).
