For some unknown reason I have a visceral dislike — I am using a polite word — for Conservative spokesman Rush Limbaugh.
However, I have to admit that he is a blessing in disguise for Democratic fund-raising organizations as hardly a week goes by that I don’t get an e-mail from one Democratic organization or another pointing out Limbaugh’s latest disgraceful, vile comments either about the President of the United States or about Democrats — those un-American “liberals” — in general.
An e-mail I received today reads as follows:
Dorian —
If I emailed you every time Rush Limbaugh said something nutty, I wouldn’t be allowed on the internet anymore.
But Mitt Romney says he finds it “hard to disagree with Rush Limbaugh,” so here’s the latest direct quote from Rush:
“I think it can now be said, without equivocation — without equivocation — that this man hates this country. He is trying — Barack Obama is trying — to dismantle, brick by brick, the American dream.”
Rush isn’t some loose cannon — he’s apparently right in line with the Romney campaign’s talking points.
This morning, top Romney surrogate and former Republican Governor of New Hampshire John Sununu called the White House “dumb,” and, on an official Romney campaign conference call with reporters, even said: “I wish this president would learn how to be an American.”
The only way to stop the disturbing hate campaign from the Romney team is to show them that decisions like this have a cost.
Make a donation of $X or more now.
I have responded in the past, especially after the man “on loan from God” has made some unbelievably gross and offensive remarks. However, and paraphrasing the author of the e-mail, if I donated every time Rush Limbaugh said something loathsome, I would be in the poorhouse.
Conservatives will point out that these organizations are taking advantage of Limbaugh’s disgusting conduct — and of Democrats’ antipathy towards this blowhard — to fatten their coffers. I agree, it is not totally kosher.
But then, how seemly is it for this man to continue to fatten his especially large coffers — no pun intended — by daily “entertaining” 20 million ditto heads with his hate and outrage?
