EDITOR’S NOTE:
This cartoon refers to a recurring catch phrase in the hit 1950s TV sketch and later TV show “The Honeymooners,” the late Jackie Gleason’s masterpiece of comedy that is always at the top on lists of the best television comedy of all time. In it, blustery bus driver Ralph Kramden often tried to bully his wife Alice, who’d deflate him with a withering remark. The first incarnation of the phrase was: “One of these days, one of these days, POW right in the kisser!” Gleason got some criticism for this line, plus it had gotten old, so he turned it to “You’re going to the moon, Alice!” which later evolved into “Bang! Zoom!!”
Here’s a great You Tube that shows you these catch phrase moments, plus some other hilarious ones.

ALSO: I’m working my way through the definitive collection (the total running time is some 15 hours) of all the “lost” Honeymooners 1950s sketches, starting with the Dumont Network version that starred Kert Pelton as Alice (she was later blacklisted in the McCarthy era and replaced by Audrey Meadows when the show moved to CBS). I’ll review it at a later date but it is an absolute MUST OWN for baby boomers, comedy fans, and young aspiring comedians who want to study solid comedy timing and delivery and super situation comedy writing:
