Rights In America Are Inalienable
Great stories transcend the traditional MSM news cycle. I was poking around Sociological Images and stumbled upon this clip from July 22nd, a historical look at the environment under which President Truman ended armed services segregation in 1948 with a stroke of his pen.
Have a watch: excellent history lesson, great “correction” or “set the record straight” journalism, and important reminder about what it should mean to be American.
Rachel Maddow closes her commentary with the reminder that rights in America are inalienable — they are not supposed to be put to a vote. We’ll ignore, for a moment, the fact that we’ve had to put them to a vote for both women and blacks.
