It was predictable that, on such a grave and contentious issue as the preliminary agreement that was reached over the weekend on Iran’s nuclear program, there would be equally argumentative and mixed pronouncements on both sides of the issue.
As is evident from Joe Gandelman’s excellent roundup of such reactions, they were all over the place and, generally, along Party lines. But also, generally, the reactions were and continue to be on the substance and the seriousness of a delicate issue that, if not dealt with correctly, could engulf the region — even the world — in sheer nuclear Armageddon.
But leave it to Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the second-ranking Senate Republican, to render perhaps the most wacky, bizarre, nonsensical and, most of all, totally irrelevant take.
This is what my Senator from Texas tweeted:
Amazing what WH will do to distract attention from O-care
I said “Quotes of the Weekend,” plural.
Here is perhaps the most appropriate reaction to Cornyn’s non sequitur in a tweet by David Plouffe, Senior Advisor to President Obama:
No, a real distraction would be war. Like Iraq
