Hillary Clinton did what she had to do … Have the Clintons now gotten out of Obama’s way once and for all? Not by a long-shot, according to Dietmar Ostermann of Germany’s Frankfurter Rundschau. Ostermann writes somewhat ominously about Hillary’s speech at the convention:
“No one was deceived: Hillary Clinton did what she had to do for her party of U.S. Democrats: she has unmistakably gotten behind Barack Obama. Her speech was clear, unsentimental - and shrewd … But even if Clinton has come to terms with her defeat, she certainly has no intention of withdrawing. As long as he fails to involve them, Obama will feel the shadow of the Clintons beside him.

Hillary Clinton did what she had to do for her party of U.S. Democrats: she has unmistakably gotten behind Barack Obama. Her speech was clear, unsentimental - and shrewd. The exhortation to her supporters - that now it’s time to fight for Obama - sounded neither bitter nor half-hearted. In Denver she has built Obama the bridge that he needed to mend the wounded soul of a party badly torn by the long nomination battle. And more importantly: to win over her 18 million voters for himself. Obama’s speech this evening is his first opportunity to do so.
