The Key Question About The Democratic Party And Convention

Was last night’s convention a sign that the Democratic Party is now on the path to unity rather that forming a circular firing squad? The conventional wisdom seems that it’s all coming together — but some spot signs at the convention and elsewhere that the Democrats are again working overtime to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    Come on Joe, you gotta look at the source. Some pundits and columnists just can't bear the thought of losing the drama of the "fractured party" souffle they've been whipping for months. They know that if they face reality people are going to lose interest and then no one will be paying any attention to them after McCain gets his lunch eaten by Obama in November.

    I can't wait to hear Ron Paul's unity speech at the Republican convention. My significant other and I are already forecasting how the speeches will go in Minneapolis. "Fear, Fear Fear" "War War War" Drill Drill Drill".

    I've learned never to underestimate the ability of the democrats to psych themselves out, even when they have the clear advantage. That said, this election, more than anything else, will be a referendum on whether or not the American voter has gotten a clue anytime during the last 4 years. Will they be easy fodder for the negative campaign strategy the GOP is going to make their number one priority (since they have nothing else to offer) or are they going to actually THINK this time? We shall see...

    Maureen Dowd? The most vapid "writer" among the chattering classes! And wrong, as she so often is. Obama is not limp or wimpy, and Clinton did not supply the "missing" fight -- she simply went through the motions of conceding to Obama while still drawing attention to herself (and taking to long to say all she said).

    Maureen sensed the same thing that I felt in looking, touching and feeling this convention. As I overheard someone say.

    "Were all waiting for something to happen and we dont know what it is."

    Well I am baffled by the sincere lack of purpose, leadership and direction from the top. As the old saying goes we will lead from the top down. In Denver they seem to be following from the bottom up.

    When and if they turn that around is anyones guess.

    They've done nothing other than mutual Feel-Good stuff the first night, Hillary Clinton conceding to Obama last night, and the current scripted roll call vote.

    No strong attacks on the Republicans (other than Schweitzer), no substantial offers and presentations to the people about what they, the Dems, want to do, no argument why they are better and how things will be better.

    A lot is going to be riding now on Obama's speech. Let's hope Biden and Clinton help things tonight. I have no confidence in something good from someone like Bayh or some of the other lesser lights (fluff and filler speakers). Schweitzer has been the sole exception to date.
