Pro-Military, Pro-Obama

Toward the end of my Oct. 6 post — which spelled out the reasons I’ve decided to back Sen. Obama for President — I acknowledged that this decision would likely anger some of my family because they believe McCain is the more pro-military candidate, and we happen to have a cherished member of our family in the military.

I only hope those family members take time to consider the larger picture and recognize that individuals (and families) can legitimately be for Obama and for the military — a point this new video from Blue Star Families for Obama (BSF4O) drives home. BSF4O is a grassroots organization created by Army and Marine spouses.

    If you have a problem with this link(I have had a problem a couple of times when I accessed this from the link I provided.
    If you do have the same problem just go to Pen and Sword. The blog is the second one on the page title if you can't then baffle them with BS.

    There is another unspoken aspect to Obama's "military" appeal, in that the best military uses diplomacy as the first line of defense. No one would let our country come to risk, even under Palin's potential command. We have a Cabinet, Congress and high-ranking military brass who would essentially bend the ear of any standing president to good effect and protection. What we really need to consider is the potential of the next president to preturb or exacerbate the precarious world situation to our detriment.

    If we elect a short-thinking, hotheaded "maverick" for another four years, we will be signing our own death certificate. I can't shake the feeling that our enemies sit with baited breath...awaiting our choice. Do we tell the world, in essence "f-you" and give them another four years of the middle finger or do we tell the world "sorry, we may have made some mistakes" and go out to negotiate a future for ourselves?

    Obama is a negotiator. McCain isn't. One holds the potential for regaining allies and world respect, the other holds the potential for foolhardy armageddon that Bush/Cheney did triple back flips to try to launch.

    Personally, I'm tired of the religious right trying to shove the prophecies of their Bible down everyone's throat...even going so far as to (with twisted glee no less) create the very conditions in the Book of Revelations to play their God's hand for Him. Talk about whacked out extremist religions... Reverend Wright has nothing on the neocons when it comes to doing insane stuff in the name of "God". *retch*

    Do they realize the romans' bastardized Christ's teachings to serve the agenda of Empire expansion? Do they realize every christian sect they've ever heard of sprang from the Roman Catholic Church, the phasod of that ancient redaction of the real teachings? What they practice and shove down other's throats was a brilliant political agenda spawned by the Emperor Constantine?

    Nevermind. That requires that they study their history on their faith. And you know how loathe religious extremists are to examine the fundamentals of anything, much less their rigid dogma.. McCain and Palin are of that ilk. There is no room in the world today for religious extremists putting lives at risk for what boils down to an insidious tradition of nutty fantasies and misconstrued messages.

    The more "fundamental" the christian beliefs, the closer they are to Constantine's agenda. Rule of thumb. (think: Palin)

    Many extremist christians would be more historically accurate calling their faith "Constantinianity", since it is largely his and not Christ's agenda they are carrying out and propogating like some deadly mind-virus.

    Pete, Joe's post right after yours has a 47% McCain to 44% Obama poll, so the military seems as divided as everyone else in America.

    I wonder how many of the spouses realize that many of their husbands will probably lose their jobs in the military in the coming Obama Administration. The only way that an Obama Administration can pay for new entitlement programs will be severe cuts in the military and military payroll is the easiest thing to cut without a political backlash.

    Also, they should have left the black wife out. Blacks are probably going to vote 98% for Senator Obama independent of any other life situations.

    Those serving in non-combat military roles are indistinguishable from other government workers. The issue isn't whether BO will treat government/military workers better than McCain. Obviously, BO is THE choice for those on the government dole because he'll do everything in his power to earn the vote of those living off our money.

    In case you've forgotten, we are at war. Our combat soldiers will overwhelmingly vote for McCain because he represents everything they admire in a Commander-in-Chief. Conversely, they wholly disdain BO and those working to elect him.

    If BO is elected, our "volunteer" army will be the first casualty of Change Politics. All you young Mommies be Daddies be advised; there is no free lunch when it comes to the choice you are about to make, YOUR VOTE FOR Barrack Obama IS YOUR VOTE FOR A WARTIME DRAFT.

    Pro-military? I guess that depends on what the word is is? My finger is way up in the air and pointed directly at you, Mr. Moderate Voice! : )

    Only an Obama Kool-Aide-aholic would think this ad somehow demonstrates their Lord's strength with military voters. Hey, if soldiers won't support him, use their friends and families to say they do. Careful, that Kool-aide stains!

    My husband is 26 years old and is currently in month 11 of his 4th deployment. He loves his job and we love our life as an Army family. We're proud and patriotic Americans, and we do not agree with the role our country is playing in Iraq. We don't feel like the past few years' progress are worth our country's sacrifices any longer.

    To correct a few things that stood out in the comments:
    Most service men and women blindly back the republican candidate because they believe that is the way to get more pay. They don't back him because they admire him, and most aren't informed enough to be able to tell you what he has to admire.

    Wholly disdain Obama? I didn't see anything close to 100% on any of the polls.

    Military funding can afford to be cut when troops deployments are reduced, which would help the current financial situation of our country tremendously. Military families can afford a slightly smaller pay raise when their cost of living isn't constantly rising.

    My husband has a much better chance of losing his life if McCain is elected, for a cause that neither of us support, but he has virtually no chance of losing his job if Obama is elected. The Army doesn't do lay-offs.
