It seems like these days everyone’s a music critic:
Obie Trice, a protege of Eminem, was shot over the weekend while driving on a city highway, police said.
Someone in another car shot through the back window of 28-year-old Trice’s vehicle as he drove along the Lodge Freeway around 1:10 a.m. Saturday, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Mario Gonzales.
The Detroit native managed to continue driving and got off the freeway in the suburb of Southfield, where his girlfriend, also in the vehicle, flagged down police, Gonzales said.
He was taken to Providence Hospital, where he was treated and released. There were no suspects.
The Detroit News adds these details to the above AP story:
They are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the shooter.
Trice, 28, and his girlfriend were traveling north on the Lodge at 1:10 a.m. Saturday when someone in another vehicle shot through the back window of Trice’s sport utility vehicle.
Though the bullet grazed his head, Trice was not seriously injured. He was treated at Providence Hospital in Southfield and released shortly afterward.
“He’s doing fine. He’s pretty much back to his normal self,” Trice’s grandmother, Delois Askew, said Sunday.
HipHopDX adds this context:
Sadly, 2005 saw many rappers shot. Suge, Cam and others were added to the list of wounded hip hop stars. Just before we all said goodbye to the year that was, Shady Records artist Obie Trice added his name to the list when he was shot in Detroit, Michigan….
Obie’s last album Cheers to recieved rave reviews, including one from DX. He’s also appeared in a film, 8 Mile and is prepping his next release.
Some more traditional, conservative critics warn that rap music is dangerous music — but it seems particularly dangerous to those that perform it. Just read THIS LIST.
