I am not often moved to tears by a story in the news but this one comes pretty darn close to making even the most stoic of readers a little emotional.
It seems a 10 year old girl was getting close to the end of her long battle with cancer. She had previously seen the Pixar film Monsters vs. Aliens and had enjoyed it but she was really looking forward to the new movie Up, which is out in theaters now.
Unfortunately her cancer had progressed to the point that she would not be able to leave her house to go to the theater to see the movie. But a family friend contacted Pixar and told them the story and asked if there was anything they could do to help. The studio responded by sending an employee out to her home with a DVD of the movie and a bag full of stuffed animals of characters from the movie.
Although she was too sick to keep her eyes open for the film, she was able to enjoy it with her mother giving her the details of what was happening. The afternoon was a very special one for the young girl and her mother. After finishing the film the employee quietly left to return to the studio.
A few hours later the young girl died, happy that her last wish had been met.
To their credit, Pixar did not comment on the story, declining to take any PR from the event (it appears from the article that Pixar was not the source of the story).
Sometimes even those big bad corporations have a big heart…….
