The more I think about President’s Obama speech last night the more upset I become. Secretary of State John Kerry was in Saudi Arabia today and the most they offered was moral support. The same applies to Germany and Great Britain and the attitude of Turkey is especially disturbing. The reality is the United States is probably less threatened than any of the the countries in the Middle East and Europe. They continue to expect the the United States will continue it’s role as international policeman. The reality is we can’t afford that anymore. Obama wants to support the moderate free Syrian opposition -this is a fools errand, a Don Quito moment. The only organization in Syria that has a chance of defeating ISIL is the army of Assad. Many if not most of the efforts to push back ISIL in Iraq have been the result of efforts by Shiite militias supported by Iran. Of course the non Arab Kurdish Sunnis have also put up a good fight and we should continue to support them. As for the Sunni fiefdoms in the Middle East like Saudi Arabia – to hell with them. They are responsible for creating this band of psychopaths so let them be overrun by them.
It’s time we make it clear to the Sunnis in the region that unless they are willing to commit blood and treasure to the effort to defeat ISIL we will pivot to what appears to be out only real allies in this fight the Shiites of Iran and Syria.
