Well, actually, I don’t know if it’s a dinner. It’s been called an event, a meeting and a visit, but Mashable says “Obama is slated to sit down with Zuckerberg and other tech CEOs at a private dinner during his overnight trip to the West Coast.” The president is set to arrive in San Francisco at 5:45 (PST).
The LATimes has the official list of attendees and these details:
“This is a part of our economy that has been a huge contributor to economic growth in the last several decades … and we expect will continue to be,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said at his Thursday briefing. “It is a remarkable demonstration of the American capacity for creativity and innovation, leadership and a model really for that kind of economic activity that we want to see in other cutting-edge industries in the United States where jobs can be created in America and kept in America.”
The White House said a range of other topics may come up in the discussion as well. The House of Representatives is considering legislation to block an FCC order implementing net neutrality, which is aimed at preserving open access to the Internet.
Steve Jobs is a significant presence on the list of attendees. A photograph of Jobs outside the Stanford Cancer Center recently sent Apple stock sliding down yesterday. Earlier in the week reports haD Jobs back on the Apple campus specifically to focus on a bunch of cool upcoming projects.
On Friday the president will visit Intel’s semiconductor manufacturing plant in Hillsboro, Ore.
