President Barack Obama phoned Georgetown University Sandra Fluke after top-rated conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh (who is the de facto leader of the Republican Party in many ways) called her a slut to thank her for her support and say her parents must be proud of her:

UPDATE:Limbaugh has responded in a way that almost says, I dare you to touch me I dare Republicans to really put distance between you and me. And he’s correct: he likely is untouchable (makes $$$) and is almost a de facto leader of the GOP:

After learning of the president’s phone call during his radio show today, a day after he chided Fluke over her sex life, Limbaugh made a kissing noise with his lips and mocked Obama.

“That is so compassionate. What a great guy,” Limbaugh said. “The president called her to make sure she’s OK. What is she, 30 years old? Thirty years old, student at Georgetown Law who admits to having so much sex she can’t afford it.”

So this is our political discussion? And this is entertainment? Aimed at a young woman?

Does anybody know of a sponsors list for the Limpbaugh media. What would sponsors do if large numbers take their business else where with a boycott!!

  • slamfu

I’m sad to say that I’m on that list. We’ll be pulling our humble radio spots this afternoon.

Even though I don’t agree with him generally I can usually see some logic and reasoning in what he has to say. Not this time. I think he’s gone off the deep end.

  • bluebelle

I would never suppress Limbaugh. He gives us all a window into the heart and soul of the right wing.
Democrats can do nothing to get him off the air because the fat guy is literally too big to fail. But every time he opens up his fat mouth about this subject, the coffers for the DNC get more donations as does NOW.

So sad and predictable that Republicans lack the moral courage to dispute anything he says. The silence is deafening!

  • rudi

    @xyz
This is someone daughter. If you had a daughter and Limpbaugh called her a slut it would be OK with you?

  • roro80

Wow xyz, you are quite a piece of work.

  • jdledell

xyz – Are you saying that liberals should not criticize Rush? That is what some of the comments on this topic are doing yet you show righteous indignation (pun intended)at the very thought. Rush often advocates that his supporters take action on certain issues and he criticizes liberals forcefully. Somehow, you seem to think returning the favor is inappropriate.

  • ShannonLeee

Obama really should have stayed out of this. Rush doubling down is no surprise. He owns the Republican airways…he is untouchable.

    email who you wish..
    call…
    protest…
    boycott…

he has millions of listeners and the sponsers will just come back after this all blows over…and he knows it.

  • rudi

And, the girls I’ve raised or helped raise in my life would never behave like Fluke or be associated with that activist bilge.
What do you know about Flukes behavior? CPAC WAS a “animal house” party for maNY young conservatives. Can Rush and conservatives be sluts?

  • zephyr

Responding to xyzyx makes as much sense as responding to Rush Limbaugh. It’s a waste of keystrokes. By all means though, write to those sponsors! (thanks rudi)

  • Rcoutme

I believe that Xyzyx should probably tone it down. Having said that, I also believe that Rush Limbaugh has a right to say what he will.

Addressing Xyzyx: we are not suggesting that Limbaugh be silenced. We are suggesting that he not be paid by people we support through our buying for doing so. Letting companies who support him through adverstisements know that we take offense at what he says is the first step to civil discourse. If RL had simply said that he believes that he should not have to pay for the amount of sex the woman has been having and left it at that, he would not be in nearly as much hot water. He did not (and in the past has not) do that.

Vilification is the main problem with our current political discourse. Insisting that the other person is evil, deviant, vile, corrupt, unpatriotic, lazy, stupid, and many other forms of deviation from rational and concerned is why our congress is so gridlocked in the first place. Rush’s comments don’t help. Meanwhile, they DO hurt. That is, imho, very sad.
