This is the old Denver Post Office, pillarized completely… pillars were meant in ancient times to create a certain geometric grace via formulae: a certain height of pillar and radius of pillar carries a mathematical aesthetic as compared to width or depth of the pediment and other structures surrounding. In that sense, the pillar is more than a set of bones or ornaments for the building, it is also part of an artistic ratio, similar to an aesthetic in painting which is often based on mathematic thirds…this believed since classical times to be pleasing to the senses.
This is the Civic Center Park, a small park usually inhabited by men and women with grocery carts piled high with soiled sleeping bags and ‘found objects.’ It is across from the Capitol Building in Denver, and has presently been taken over by Recreate68.
This is the column-ized pavilion at Cheesman Park in Denver, as mentioned in the preceding article. Although ‘night maneuvers’ have taken place there ‘since forever’ … this large park is also surrounded by a ring of shoulder-to-shoulder high-rise condos that have views of the Rockies that push the condo-cum-balcony prices into an equally Rocky Mountain High.
