Are the ongoing uprisings in the Muslim world due to ‘weariness’ with the materialism of the West, led by the U.S.? To judge from the above photo, at least, it isn’t only materialism making Iranians ‘weary.’
In this latest explanation for the Muslim revolution from Tehran, Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reports that the supreme leader has once again congratulated ‘seekers of freedom and justice’ in the Muslim world, even as his security forces squelched the peaceful protests of his own citizens.
The Islamic Republic News Agency news account says in part:
Congratulating audience members, the great Iranian nation, the Muslim Ummah [Muslim community] and those seeking freedom and justice, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the growing awareness on the part of certain Muslim states like Egypt and Tunisia is a sign that mankind has become weary of the materialistic civilization.
The Ayatollah said that the Global Arrogance meddles in life, the economy, understanding and insight among people and leads them astray. As a result, he said life has become dark – something that doesn’t fit in with innate nature of human beings.
“We should correct ourselves. Today, nations have awakened thanks to Islam. Such awareness is evident in all segments of the Muslim world.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the U.S. has raised a global hue and cry to divert public attention from itself, adding that popular movements in the region are first of all against the hegemony of the imperial powers. He said that The Arrogance had divided Muslim nations to prevent the emergence of Islam in the truest sense of the word.
