We Agree: Rush Limbaugh Deserves The Award

April 23rd, 2007 by JOE GANDELMAN, Editor-In-Chief

He truly deserves this award. But, then, it hasn’t been the first time. The scary thing is that there are many who think the comment in the link is the kind of “discussion” that comprises politic debate. No. It is an attempt to whip up hatred against people who happen to disagree with you on other issues. By comparison, he makes Newt Gingrich’s related earlier comments seem like a thoughtful PhD dissertation.

The Jonestown crowd will hyperventilate with the link to MM and the mention of Olbermann, but Limpbaugh said the words so we can’t blame his comments on the Librul MSM.

I just saw this and it made me ill enough to share. Yes Limbaugh is a jerk, but you can easily say he doesn’t represent a great many people. But what about the American Family Association? They have a huge number of members, and many more who sympathize. So what did the AFA post just a few days ago? This

Notice how fast the jump from “what you do in private is OK” to “posting pictures of nude children on the internet”. Damn, and it’s dinnertime here too, I’m in no mood for it anymore.

He deserves it every week, if you ask me. Who else goes more out of their way to be polarizing and blaming everything that goes wrong on a certain half of the population? Can conservatives do no wrong? He is ten times more offensive than IMUS, but still has the largest AM Talk audience. So it is not just the fringes of the population that listen.

The state of Georgia(Newterland) also gives us this headline today:

Seem a Butler county high school decided that this year was a good time to integrate the senior prom, not 2003 or 1973, but today. Limpbaugh and Newter pander to these types with their statements, this isn’t off the cuff like Imus. Imus was more subtle, the Newter and Rush go for the throat.

Actually, Rush is a hugely popular radio guy. To say he doesn’t represent many people is rediculous. Many millions tune into the guy because they think what he says is on point and they agree with him. The fact so many of my fellow americans nod their heads to his show worries me. Like the fact so many people listen to Imus. Both guys are douchebag blowhards, but they wouldn’t be millionaire famous types if they didn’t strike a cord with a lot of people.

To me the worst thing that has happened to American political debate is that it is considered intelligent, witty and productive to demonize, slash and burn and define people. There’s one conservative talker who I listen to because he truly is unpredictable and has run into huge problems himself for what he said. But most of these guys (including many of the progressive talk show hosts, particularly some of them who do local shows) have gotten so predictable. Their shows consist of name calling and people tune into these shows to listen to them for hours. It’s very sad that ideas and solutions and consensus mean so little. If you -project this trend, and assume that it will not only continue, but the coarsening and vulgarization of America continues, what can you predict things will be like in 10 or 20 years? This does NOT include ALL talk show hosts on the right or left by the way. Nor does this include ALL talk show hosts who may use
“shock jock” styles. Our discussion has NOT been elevated by the advent of most talk radio as the political equivilent of professional wrestling.

Also Imus has no hidden agenda- he’s an equal opportunity offender. You can read plenty of comments in the previous post on Newt’s handiwork that let you know that their audience buys into a message like that- big time. Neither of them lead particularly morally conservative lives- but their audience never seems to notice or care.

JG Are you referring to Michael Savage? I listen to Glenn Beck, he’s somewhat entertaining and I get a perspective of the other side. Both lack the arrogance and pompous attitudes of Billo and Olberamnn.

  9. kritter said:

The only conservative I can stand for more than a few minutes is Joe Scarborough- and he’s not on the radio anymore.

  10. joe gandelman said:

YES. I don’t agree with Savage much at all (to say the least). But I never know what he’s going to say. He will also toss out politics and talk about the glories of Italian food and how meatballs are not made the way they used to, he can put on really moldy rock and roll or say something trite and think it’s profound or shift gears totally and make sense when he talks about the state of BOTH political parties. With Rush, Sean and some on the left, I feel as if I’m listening to people who are using talking points emailed from the RNC or the DNC. I can tell what they’re going to say before they say it - and they have inspired me to use Books On Tape when I drive and consider satillite radio. (My favorite talk show host remains Ed Schultz)

Rush is right, of course. Rush is always right. It’s best just to accept this fact and bask in the knowledge and wisdom he’s willing to share with us for 3 hours per day. Just consider it. We too can reach great heights if we will only glean his gracefully shared wit. Thank you Mr. Limbaugh, and may the airwaves and blog-scum give thanks to your kind contribution to our society. When they start quoting you correctly, I may once again join the millions of Americans who bend an unknowing ear to the left in the direction of the MSM.

What a true jackass rush is for politicizing such a horrific event. He can’t help but make political hay out of every situation. Well, according to the grandfather, Cho displayed abnormal behavior from early childhood.

    Rudi,
That Butler County story is actually a very positive one even though the synopsis you gave sounds negative, so I hope people will click on your link and read it all. The school for years has not HAD an official prom, because the kids were choosing to remain segregated and have two separate social events rather than participate in a school sanctioned prom for all. Now a group of students CHOSE to promote an officially sanctioned, integrated prom. The school is almost half black, so we’re not talking about a small minority that was cowed into having their own prom because they weren’t welcomed at the main one; instead it shows that both group of kids preferred to socialize with ‘their own’ until recently. The story also mentions the role of the parents in recent years in helping to change attitudes by having their kids participate in more extracurricular events with kids of the opposite race.

I find this extremely positive; here we have attitudes that are changing for the better in a natural, organic way rather than through the imposition of law or regulation. Yeah, it took too long but how much better is it for the people to have decided to do this, for their hearts and minds to have been changed, rather than having been forced to do it by fiat?

I agree with Joe, these shows are boring. I picture ditto heads rocking back and forth when listening to Rush just waiting for the command “Librul, when they hear it they froth at the mouth and roll on the floor. Anyone making an emotional appeal is jerking you around, I am surprised how many people don’t realize this.

  17. kritter said:

Yes its idiotic- but surprisingly effective. I remember the ’80’s when only the fringe nutcases listened to his show. We can look down on him all we like, but must at the same time acknowledge that a lot of folks are hearing his message loud and clear- and taking him at his word. His multimillion-dollar Palm Beach mansions and jet set life style speak for themselves. In all of the controversies he has been involved in -why no calls to take him off the air. Aren’t his daily rants more damaging to all of us than Imus’ moronic comment about the Rutgers’ team??

Do the dittoheads even get that he is not broadcasting the GOP’s meme of personal responsibility- but the exact opposite? Its just more divide and conquer and it is a dangerous message for the country. Who would be proud to be a dittohead- it pretty much says “I don’t think for myself- Rush decides what I think for me”!!!???

  18. Lynx said:

    C. Stanley, yes, it’s always better to have people take the initiative and do things because they want them, but that isn’t always possible. How likely would this voluntary integration have been in the absence of FORCED integration of the schools? How much time would have passed before people decided to integrate on their own? I believe that if you removed school busing today most people would probably go back to segregation in a heartbeat, at least in those places where neighborhoods are still mostly divided by race. I say this as someone who has suffered busing and thinks it hurts neighborhoods, but sometimes forced intervention is the only way to move things along.

  19. kritter said:

Lynx- I agree with you completely. This sort of feeds into another discussion that we were having about whether the south would have integrated its school system without Brown vs. Board of Ed and the federal government forcing all-white southern schools to accept black students. Would we still have Jim Crow? Or would we just now be seeing voluntary integration as at the Butler county high school prom?

There seems to be a lot of people commenting on Rush who lack first-hand knowledge of what is actually said on the program. As is so often the case with liberals and the MSM, comments are made based on the characterization of Rush as opposed to the truth.

People who look to reaffirm their leftist worldview would like to think Rush is “coarse and “vulgar, which couldn’t be farther from reality. Limbaugh’s vast audience is a result of his ability to present rational, reasoned argument with a sense of humor from a conservative point of view. The facts he presents are monitored by the left and checked closer than any other public figure, so the information is accurate by necessity.

Rush not only accepts calls from listeners on the left, but has a policy of moving them to the head of the line. He is always polite and will debate the subject matter until the point the caller invariably resorts to name calling or insults. The stark difference between his program and the hate-filled vitriol of the defunct Air America explains why Limbaugh makes 80 – 100 million a year while talkers on the left need to pay to have their message broadcast.

If you want to have an informed opinion, either pro or con, it would be best to actually listen to the program for some length of time to hear for yourself what is said.
