It has emerged that PLO founder and former Palestinian President Yasser Arafat was likely murdered with a quite exotic radioactive poison: polonium. Columnist Ali Sadek of the Palestinian newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah writes that the likely perpetrators – the Israelis, Americans, complicit Arab leaders, or some combination of the three – were trying to break the spirit of Palestinians when they killed Arafat – but to no avail.
For Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, Ali Sadek writes in part:
The Great Abu Ammar [Arafat’s Kunya] was killed by a poison worthy of the name “Great,” as it can only be produced in a large nuclear reactor. So it was not of the caliber of rat poison or mercury. Thus, Arafat too was similar to a nuclear bomb – his atomic attributes merged with the nuclei of toil, forming an endless source of energy.
Those who nuclear-bombed Arafat were under the illusion that they had dispirited the Palestinians. It is as if Hiroshima had disappeared or faded away. On the contrary, Hiroshima has become a shrine to all the world’s people who want to meditate and see what injustice and crime result in. Listen up America and Israel: the people of Hiroshima are present and optimistic. Abu Ammar did nothing but make the people feel like the impossible was possible.
Now it must be recalled, that those who wish to start hypothetical discussions about Palestinian perpetrators of the crime, want only start rumors that poison our own self-confidence. It would have been impossible for those among us with leadership roles to have helped throw a small nuclear bomb into Abu Ammar’s stomach. Such heinous treachery is not part of our tradition, and it is contrary to the character and relationships between Abu Ammar and his staff.
To that must be added that the murderous occupiers who are against a settlement, and who, in broad daylight, attacked Yasser Arafat’s headquarters with tanks, are no strangers to murder, either by fire or means of espionage.
