Islamists Win 70% Of Seats In Egyptian Parliament

Not exactly the best news coming out of Cairo as they announce election results. The only quasi good news is that the super hard liners won 25% of the vote while the ‘moderate’ Muslim Brotherhood got 47%.

We shall see how ‘moderate’ they are.

Yep, now the Islamite’s have control of the Suez canal. Stay tuned for trouble.

Wow, for once, Allen and I are wholly on the same page. Way to go everybody who supported the Arab Spring. Way to go. *shakes head*

It is their country… or are they just our subjects? I am a lot more worried about Iran than anything else in the region right now.

This is a lot more serious than the S.C. election debacle.
Here’s the chance for Islamists to prove that they are not all “terrorists” or incapable of running a civilized government.
    I don’t expect a western-type of country, just, hopefully, a non-threatening one.

dduck, I agree. It is a country of Islam, and The Brotherhood holds all the cards, the direction they take will determine the threat.

This echos my own sentiments. Democracy is a messy process and we haven’t exactly attained utopia yet ourselves. They won’t be able to transform their country overnight. Iran is my greater worry as well. I’m just glad Dick Cheney isn’t calling the shots anymore.

I am less worried about Egypt right now that I would have been (had I been older) in 1972.
