Some GOPers apparently think so.
FOOTNOTE: One of my closest friends/business associates in San Diego has regularly voted Republican. He will not in 2006 and most likely will not in 2008. Why not? There are various reasons. But one reason is that he is truly alarmed because “I never thought I’d see the day when some people in the Republican party would say ‘Ah, it’s only science..” like science doesn’t matter. What are they saying they want to replace it with? It’s like some of them want to go back to the Middle Ages!” He is quite aghast…and will be voting against the party he used to favor because he is troubled by it and the faction that seems to have a powerful role in it. He has a few kids — and has had no problem teaching them to respect science and scientists.
