Today is Election Day.
The campaigning is over, the electioneering is over — or should be.
You know where the candidates stand.
You know where I stand, so you will not find a single partisan or political word here.
Now it is time to elect, now is the time for you and me to have the last word.
I just voted and I am proudly wearing a little sticker pasted on my shirt that says “Yo Voté.” My wife’s say “I Voted.”
If you have not voted, please vote — whether Republican, Democrat, Progressive, Libertarian, Green, or whatever.
And don’t let anyone tell you differently, every vote counts — if only because it represents your opinion, it represents you, it is you.
But, even if you feel that your vote may not make a difference at the national level, how about that proposition that you like or hate; how about that candidate for state representative whom you like; how about that school district superintendent that has such great ideas for the schools in your area; how about — here in Texas — that Sheriff who has already shown his mettle; how about…
Or, as my colleague, Elijah Sweete, put it so well:
So, vote. Take pride in the process. Hold your head high walking away from the polling place. And, as you watch the results tonight, take time to step away from cheering for your side long enough to appreciate the process and accept the winners, whoever they may be.
Finally, if that doesn’t motivate you, how about voting because you can. I know that it sounds trite, corny, clichéd, etc. but nevertheless it is true: there are still millions — perhaps billions — around the world who cannot.
So, please vote!
