Another poetic gem from TMV’s favorite poet, Michael Silverstein, aka Wall Street Poet:
Anyone with any political savvy understands what Bush has been doing in recent months to keep his Iraq policies afloat: playing The Wizard Of Oz card.
Having become so personally unpopular, he’s been saying, in essence, pay no attention to that man behind the curtain (me). Focus instead on the person I’ve chosen to carry out my policies, a charismatic and well respected general named Petraeus. Even Washington Democrats, no bright lights when it comes to outwitting the man Rove built, twigged to this gambit, and were very careful to support the troops and their commander while opposing the man actually dictating policy.
Then along came MoveOn.
Single-handedly this group not only destroyed Democratic hopes for changing the mission in Iraq, it created the basis for what will almost certainly be the Rove gang’s most effective presidential campaign ad next year. Thanks a heap, MoveOn…
moveon, speaksout, demslose
(a three-part limerick)
As they happily looked toward ’08
It appeared that Dems prospects were great
The war of George Bush
From power would push
His party — defeat their sure fate.
Then ‘lo the MoveOn folks appeared
And made the dumb move Dem pros feared
‘Sted of trashing the war
They took a detour
And trashed Bush’s popular beard.
So next year this ad Rove will use
‘It’s Petraeus or MoveOn, you choose:
Spouting this phony choice
Repubs will rejoice
‘Cause again their opponents will lose.
