In a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania two former Presidents (Clinton and Bush) and the Vice President of the United States have gathered with thousands of others to dedicate the memorial to the heroes of Flight 93.
A wall engraved with the names of the 40 brave souls who, knowing that they had to act, waged the first battle in the war on terror, a battle that they won.
Vice President Biden struck a poigniant tone when he told the families of the victims that he knew what it was like to get a call out of the blue. As you may know Mr. Biden lost his wife and children in a tragic car accident shortly after his first election to the US Senate.
The name of each hero was read out under grey skies, which somehow seems appopriate.
The only sad thing to me is that it took 10 years to complete the memorial.
The ceremony is being broadcast live on CNN, Fox, MSNBC and C-Span.
