Safe Republican
Senate: Incumbent Senator Tim Johnson (D) is something of the Mark Phelps of politics in South Dakota. Two years ago he nearly died due to bleeding in his brain. Since then, his recovery has been slow but he has earned the admiration of many in the state. He should have little trouble beating State Representative Joel Dykstra.
Safe Democrat
House: Incumbent Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D) should have little trouble in November.
