In looking back at the campaign I am struck by the two different ways at which people looked at the candidates.
One segment looked at the other side and saw decent people who they simply disagreed with, they thought their policies were bad but that their intent was good.
The other looked at the other side and saw someone evil, they didn’t just dislike the policy they hated the person.
This is a sadly bipartisan split too. Most of my GOP/conservative friends (here on FB and elsewhere) who opposed Obama believe him a good man with bad policies, but I do have those who look at him as some evil man.
Similarly I have liberal/Democratic friends both here and elsewhere who didn’t like Romney/Ryan views but think they are good people. Yet I have ones who looked at these men as some monstrous demons who were out to destroy and pillage.
I have to wonder where the 2nd attitude comes from, regardless of which side.
I would love to hear thoughts, hopefully not just “well the other side is evil” or “my side never thinks that way” but a real exploration of why we seem to have an increasing inability to agree to disagree.
