While TMV is mostly a news and politics site I think a little variety of stories is helpful and given the horrors of the recent week a little fluff might be nice.
As we all know there is a battle between Conan, Jay and NBC over the late night lineup.
Now reports are emerging that Mr. O’Brien’s contract did NOT specify when the show would be aired, simply that he would host the Tonight Show.
Now as most of you know I am an attorney and while I do not do any sort of work in entertainment law or contract law I find it mind boggling that his lawyers would make such a blunder. I may not be an expert but I did see the made for TV movie about the Leno/Letterman battle and do recall that time of show as an issue then. I certainly would have insisted that the time be in any contract
Even if (as seems the case) Conan and his lawyers argue that it was implied that the Tonight show would be at 11:35 it seems they could have thought of this when the deal was being drawn up. As I always tell clients, they teach a course in paranoia in law school so we like to be extra cautious.
