One of my all-time favorite voter education groups, Project Vote Smart, has completed its 2008 Presidential Political Courage Test and mailed it to all candidates vying for the White House. (This new test is the updated and re-named successor to PVS’ Political Awareness Test.)
If you have a moment, shoot your favorite presidential candidate a note and encourage him or her to complete this test by the deadline of 10/31/07. It’s an excellent exercise, moving well beyond the typical, yes-no, thumbs-up-thumbs-down Q&A to which our candidates (and we) are too often subjected.
Note: The 2008 test is comparable to the 2004 test, with a few minor changes (e.g., FEMA and the UN have been added under “Budget Priorities”) and at least one major change (viz., a section on “Social Issues” has been added to explore candidate views on same-sex couples, embryonic stem cells, race/gender/affirmative action, and Internet gambling; abortion continues to have its own stand-alone category).
