Dear Democrats:
The GOP may look pathetic right now, but your own political party is no bed or roses, either.
Frankly, there is a reason why Independent voters like me are Independents instead of Democrats. We have seen what happens when the Democratic Party has control over both houses of Congress and the White House.
The last time that happened, the Democratic Party shoved Obamacare down our throats without having any support from the GOP. Plus, in order to get enough votes in the Senate to pass Obamacare, Democrats had to make a shady deal with then-Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska.
From a 02/22/10 story by The Hill:
That’s right. The deal was made to get Nelson’s vote, but once the voting was over, the deal was eliminated.
That wasn’t the end of the story.
Contrary to what President Obama said back then, Obamacare hasn’t meant that one can keep one’s doctor if one likes ones doctor. Instead, people who already had health insurance either lost their insurance policies or were forced to pay higher premiums.
A 09/19/16 Chicago Tribune editorial spells out the ways that Obamacare is a failure. Here is how that editorial begins:
“Come November, the grim trudge across the increasingly barren Obamacare landscape begins anew. Illinois consumers likely face staggering price hikes for individual insurance policies. Some types of plans could cost an average of 43 percent to 55 percent more. Ditto across the country: A first tranche of states approved 2017 rates with similarly cardiac-arrest-inducing premium increases.
Many Illinois consumers will find fewer choices because major carriers fled this market. UnitedHealthcare bolted. So did Aetna. Land of Lincoln Health collapsed mid-year, leaving policy holders to scramble for coverage that could cost them plenty. In many places across Illinois and the nation, people will find drastically fewer choices of plans than they did last year.
Those insurers fled because they didn’t want to lose more money on a government-run market that is so far out of whack — a market they think likely will never be profitable for them.”
On 10/12/16, Minnesota’s Democrat governor Mark Dayton declared, “The reality is the Affordable Care Act is no longer affordable.” He said that because he knows what Obamacare is doing to the citizens of Minnesota. As CBS affiliate WCCO in Minneapolis reports, “Premiums for 250,000 Minnesotans, or 5 percent of the population, insured under MNsure will skyrocket by 50 percent or more on some health plans.”
In short, the Democratic Party seriously blundered with the passage of Obamacare, and Americans are still paying for that blunder.
So, don’t tell me that Democrats always know best because I know better.
To be continued.
