At The Reaction, guest blogger Right Democrat argues that “Democrats have the opportunity now to emerge as the party of fiscal responsibility”. See his full post here.
And I encourage you to check out his blog of the same name, a blog for moderate and conservative Democrats. He himself is a social conservative and economic populist who supports working families and traditional values.
Good, thoughtful stuff.

This past Sunday, I reported on the tainted presidential election in Belarus — see here. Leading opposition candidate Alexander Milinkevich called the election “a complete farce” and demanded a re-vote.
Since then, protests have continued, in the streets. President Alexander Lukashenko, an old-style authoritarian, promised to crack down on protesters. And he has. Here’s an update from the BBC: “Riot police in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, have broken up a five-day...

RedState characterizes them as such:
Those blogs attacking the Washington Post and Ben are so hate filled and envious, they refuse to accept Froomkin as one of their own.
Hmmm….do any of you think Donklephant is hate filled and envious?
Okay, I admit, I am filled with hate and envy.
Damn, they got me.

From the man on the ground…
Throughout 2005, I said in writing, on the radio and television that Iraq is in a state of Civil War. It had been in that state for decades. I’d point to all the kindling heaped around the country and point to the smoke on the horizon, but most people politely dismissed the warnings. Now the fire is bigger. Listen. Listen! So what’s the big deal? What’s wrong with this? It’s about helping people. How can anyone raise an eyebrow because of this story:

Since then, the Ignite Learning program has been given to eight area schools that took in substantial numbers of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

An issue related to the Dubai ports controversy suggests the issue of port security may still be alive as a controversy after all:
In the aftermath of the Dubai ports dispute, the Bush administration is hiring a Hong Kong conglomerate to help detect nuclear materials inside cargo passing through the Bahamas to the United States and elsewhere.
The administration acknowledges the no-bid contract with Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. represents the first time a foreign company will be involved in running a sophisticated...

How can you get yourself fired from your new radio station job in two weeks? Here’s a textbook example, in case you’re interested:
A St. Louis radio station quickly fired a talk show host for uttering a racial epithet as he talked about Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on his morning show Wednesday.
Dave Lenihan apologized on the air immediately after making what he said was a slip of the tongue. KTRS president and general manager Tim Dorsey agreed the remark was accidental but said...

Haha, now this is funny. Rock musicians have these things called “riders.” They’re basically lists of thing that the performer wants in their dressing rooms, be it food, liquor, certain types of furniture, etc.
Well, Cheney has a “rider” and one of the demands is that any television in his room(s) should already be tuned to FOX News.
Read the whole thing at The Smoking Gun.

Will Slaten wrote a good piece about this issue today, and how it’s neither comparable to gay marriage nor a comfortable marital state.
However, will we face the polygamy issue again in the future?
I think yes. See why.
